Day 132 of the challenge! When Animals Dream is a poignant, coming of age story...with werewolves. The idea's presented here aren't the most original (sexual awakening also leads to some sort of horrific and supernatural mutation), but the execution in When Animals Dream is just as surprisingly gentle and soft as it is haunting and harsh.
There's a melancholic thread that runs throughout the movie, grounding all the actions and moments in some emotional context. You really get a sense of what's going on in all the characters' heads, emotionally speaking. If you like your horror with some arthouse flair, you'll probably get a kick out of this one.
