Day 283 of the challenge! The Town That Dreaded Sundown (OG one) is flat soda. You can still drink it, but why would you?

I was curious to see why The Town That Dreaded Sundown isn’t considered the start of the golden age of slashers. It predated Halloween by a few years, and featured many of the same qualities that would soon be found in most slasher films following it, so you would think it would have more of a following . About 20 minutes in, I understood why. This “proto-slasher” (love that term) is as exciting as flat soda, bread without a toaster, Walter White without Heisenberg, etc. Minus the infamous trombone scene, there’s practically zero tension or style to be found. The corny voice over narrating everything as we’re seeing it was particularly frustrating.

On the other hand, there are plenty of laughs to be had. The Town That Dreaded Sundown is surprisingly funny, which might not be the best selling point for a slasher based on a true life killing spree. Say what you will about the meta sequel (which I watched very early on in this challenge), at least that one was fun and had a sense of style.
