Day 282 of the challenge! Like your family dramas with a little black magic and witch demons mixed in? Pyewacket is for you!

Pyewacket is a slow burn from start to finish, relying on a very unsettling atmosphere and it’s unhinged mother/daughter relationship to get the scares across. If you’re looking for a jump scares fest or something more traditional, then Pyewacket is too art-house for you. Mom always looks one wine glass or deranged smile away from outright bursting into flames, and daughter isn’t fairing much better. So it’s Ladybird, but as a horror movie.

There’s black magic, Evil Dead-esque “demon POV”, and enough teenage angst to keep the tension going for most of the movie, but it’s mostly wasted on a very unsatisfying ending that most will see coming miles away. Still, the attention given to the relationship is admirable, and a few sick visuals make Pyewacket worth a watch.
