Pumpkinhead (1988) - 365 Movie Challenge Day 300

Day 300 of the challenge! WOO! Celebrating by having a Pumpkinhead weekend!

The Pumpkinhead movies (the first 2 anyway) are ones I could never seem to watch in their entirety, no matter how hard I tried. I vividly remember trying to wake up early as a kid on weekend mornings to watch either of the 2 films on the Scifi Channel (Syfy now), where they always seemed to be on for whatever reason. I could never wake up early enough to catch either of them before they started though, so I’ve spent all this time having only seen about the final 20-30 minutes of each. Sad story, happy ending.

So having finally competently seen the first Pumpkinhead, I gotta say I really enjoyed it. It’s a simple cautionary tale about revenge and owning up to your mistakes. Neat right? Is it perfect? Hell nah, not by a long shot! But is it fun? Totally! The Stan Winston Studio puppetry is on point as always, and director Stan Winston himself creates a perfectly chilling and dreadful atmosphere to go along with the film’s haunting imagery. I’m expecting a lot less from part 2, but we’ll summon that demon when we need it.
