Day 147 of the challenge! Heathers deserves it's cult status! It's dark, insightful, and so damn funny! Despite being a movie that came out nearly 30 years ago, Heathers satires so many of the issues that are still so rampant in high-schools today, and teen culture in general. The way teens tend to romanticize death and suicide (something I unfortunately remember seeing when I was in high-school and my main issue with Netflix's version of 13 Reasons Why. Love the book, but can't stand the series), the quasi political nature of cliques or "the popular kids" and their influence over the other groups and individuals (giving us some nice discussion material for teen mental health issues in the process), and even accidentally showing us how messed up the current gun situation is in the USA. All in a dark cult comedy that's nearly 30 years old. I don't know about you, but that's pretty damn impressive. Heathers does all this and more, giving it to us all nice and wrapped up in some 80s dark comedy goodness.
