Day 19 of the challenge! Can't lie, I was kind of excited to finally get to Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. I have plenty of great memories of reading the first run of books by Dav Pilkey in elementary school, and who didn't make their own flip animations or comics after reading one of these?! Glad to say this fun animated movie lives up to the incredibly immature awesomeness of the books!
I honestly didn't know what to expect coming into this one. A straight up adaptation of the first book would only amount to about 30 minutes of screen time I'd imagine. I also saw elements and characters from the later books in the trailer, so I assumed they were going to do their own thing and just use the books as references. Right call! It was an original and beautifully animated story full of elements and references from all the books.
Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is one of those harmless movies that anyone can watch and enjoy it they really want to. Is it groundbreaking? No, but it was a total blast for my inner child!
