Day 40 of the challenge! Batman: Gotham by Gaslight for today! Like most of the DC Animated Universe films, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is beautifully animated and has a great voice cast. That being said, the story here was pretty weak. Honestly, the coolest thing here is seeing a steampunk Batman fight Jack the Ripper in Victorian era Gotham City. That alone makes it worth the watch.
I don't think they've been able to top The Dark Knight Returns as far as storytelling goes with the DCAU. Batman: Gotham by Gaslight just didn't have anything compelling for me to get behind. Even the big reveal at the end was pretty lackluster and unearned.
Again, only recommend this one for the animation and maybe even the plethora of easter-eggs and different interpretations of Batman's Rogue Gallery (sorry, no Joker).
