Day 26 of the challenge! After having a nice conversation about serial killers with some friends the other night, I found myself in the mood for a slasher flick. Weird right? The Town That Dreaded Sundown (which I did not know was a meta sequel/remake to the 1976 original, which itself was based on true events), is a trashy "80s vibe" slasher that at the very least gave me my quick fix of slasher horror. Now I have to find and watch the original!
So I mentioned this slasher was trashy (which I guess isn't a bad thing, but it isn't a good thing either)...There just wasn't much to this flick beyond the gruesome killings and some borderline torture porn. It has some stylish camera work and editing for sure, and a very unexpected role for Anthony Anderson (wish his character mattered to the plot. He did literally nothing...) but it does nothing for me plot wise. I couldn't even appreciate the random and uncalled for twist at the end.
I know I shouldn't be expecting anything beyond clever, over the top kills with slashers, but they exist! You just have to find them. The Town That Dreaded Sundown isn't one of them. Hoping the original is a better watch.
Day 26 out, 342 to go....
