Day 84 of the challenge! Another found footage horror anthology today with The Dark Tapes. Other than the first story (which turns the "paranormal team visits a couple's new haunted house" trope on it's head in a clever way), I couldn't get too into The Dark Tapes. There are some genuinely creepy moments to be found scattered throughout, but overall I feel that the stories didn't hit the mark. The stories had some inventive twists or developments (which I appreciate), only to back peddle and end the way you'd expect. Some of the effects work is also rather cheap looking, but considering this is a pretty micro-budget film, I don't hold any of that against the film. It's actually impressive to see what they pulled off with what they had. The Dark Tapes isn't a bad watch, but I feel a few rewrites could have made it so much better!
