Day 177 of the challenge! Piranha 3D is criminally unapologetic and shameless. In other words, it's hilarious!
Liked:
- Owns the camp like a champ!
- Creative deaths and piranha mayhem
- Fantastic gore effects
- Prefer the "prehistoric piranha escaping an underground lake" origin story over the "experimental mutant piranha" one from the original film. Gives it a "lost world" kind of flare.
- Like the original one, knows exactly what it is and makes sure you laugh with it, not at it.
- Legitimately tense moments when it gets "serious".
- Christopher Lloyd and Richard Dreyfuss cameos. I like Adam Scott too.
Didn't like:
- Excessive nudity. I get it, go all out on the gore and nudity. Apologetic and whatnot. But if you cut out all the partying montages and pandering nudity, the movie would end up being about 30 minutes long. Probably too excessive and borderline pornographic in some moments for my taste.
- Eli Roth. Ugh.
- We spent a good chunk of the film building up character's relationships and conflicts with each other, only for the resolutions to be rushed to their conclusions. I'm not looking for character studies worth of material in a Piranha movie, but if you're going to invest the build up, maybe invest in the resolution too. Last few minutes were incredibly rushed for some reason.
