Day 35 of the challenge! Back to the Oscars with Phantom Thread today. This is an odd one...On the surface, it's a marvel. Tight script, great performances, an...interesting plot... But I think Phantom Thread might be a little to art house for me to get fully behind.
Phantom Thread is purely character driven. It's incredibly light on plot and comes off more as experiences you get to see the characters go through. My issue though, is that I don't like a single character in this film. Everyone is either unlikable, weird, or both. What's supposed to be a tense and offbeat romance feels more like people avoiding dealing with much deeper and serious emotional issues. Maybe that's the point, but it's just too much for me.
