Mudbound (2017) - 365 Movie Challenge Day 33

Day 33 of the challenge! One more Oscar nomination down today with Mudbound, the beautifully shot and acted but hard to watch southern epic. Seriously, epic isn't an exaggeration! Mudbound has it all: Cheating, war, farming, family drama, the KKK, murder, etc. As hard as it is to watch, Mudbound is an important film that deserves all the praise it's currently getting and then some. Watch it.

What's most impressive about Mudbound to me is how jam packed it is without it feeling bloated or overstuffed. Every single side plot and detail has a purpose to the overall main story, be it a more thematic reason or actual action. It's a bit on the longer side as far as run time goes, but the extra time we get to spend with each character makes it worth it by the time you reach the end.

It's weird to describe this movie as beautifully shot (considering most of the movie takes place on a muddy and brown farmland), but Mudbound had some truly beautiful shots sprinkled throughout it that brought about a sense of scope, making you really feel the hardship of the farming life. My only regret with this one was not being able to see it in theaters on a giant screen.

Day 33 out, 335 to go....
