Day 264 of the challenge! Found a traditional romcom I actually enjoyed! Man Up was hilarious!
Man Up is still a fairly traditional romcom as far are story and plot goes, especially the ending, which veers WAY too closely to other generic romcoms for comfort (for my tastes anyway). Honestly, I loved Man Up solely for Simon Pegg and Lake Bell’s great performances and chemistry, both comedic and romantic. They alone make the film worth your time.
The feel good and tight script brisks by with plenty of laughs and cute “awww” moments for anyone to enjoy, some lessons (or theories as the film puts it) about relationships and emotional baggage that are interesting to think about, and ends on a silly note where everybody gets their happy ending (including an incredibly uncomfortable stalker character that would have gotten arrested if this move resembled anything close to real life. That was weird….).
It’s a romcom, but I liked it, so take that as you will!
