Labyrinth (1986) - 365 Movie Challenge Day 254

Day 254 of the challenge! Nothing in Labyrinth makes much sense, but it sure is pretty to look at. Rockin soundtrack too!

As expected, Labyrinth’s biggest strength lies in it puppetry. It’s nothing short of joyful to watch a Henson muppet brought to life, all the time wondering how many people it’s taking to do so. In fact, almost every technical aspect of the film is masterful (dated if anything). It’s too bad the film is bogged down by such a blocky and frustrating script. I understand Labyrinth is a fantasy movie aimed at children, but that’s no excuse to not give the story and characters their due. No amount of quirky muppet antics or jammin David Bowie tracks can cover up just how underdeveloped everything is. On that, too much David Bowie crotch for a kid’s movie….
