Day 155 of the challenge! After years of wanting to see it but putting it off for whatever reason, I finally made time for Her, which ended up being one of the most beautifully bizarre and heartfelt movies I have ever seen. The premise of a man falling in love with an AI (with a female personality that sounds like Scarlett Johansson no less) isn't something that seems too far fetched these days. It's a premise that seems a little more plausible than most would think, and one that takes full advantage of itself at every opportunity. Do meaningful relationships need to be physical? Can AI really feel, or are they just programmed that way?
Odd quirks aside, Her also paints a very (literally) colorful character study about a man that is defined by his pain and eventually forced to move on from it. The film is filled with characters and disembodied voices supporting these themes, while also occasionally reminding you it's technically a sci-fi film. It may be a bit too out there or preachy for some people, but I totally recommend it if you're in the mood for something fun and romantic with a twist of weird in it.
