Day 56 of the challenge! Game Night ended up being such a pleasant surprise! I went in wanting an over the top, crowd pleasing raunchy comedy (like the many comedies Jason Bateman seems to be making every couple of years now), and ended up with a surprisingly well scripted and directed crime thriller wrapped up as a comedy. A seriously fun time at the movies, Game Night will make you laugh, gasp, and hit you over the head with some crazy and unexpected twists.
Game Night was no doubt shot and directed like a thriller. The movie has some really slick camera work and some of the best cinematography I've ever seen in a supposed comedy. The action sequences (particularly one that is made to look like one single take) works well in not only keeping the energy of the moment going, but the comedy. Just when you think Game Night forgot it's a comedy, the movie whips out a sight gag or funny joke that enhances and works with the action rather than diffuse it.
