Day 215 of the challenge! Dreamcatcher is another one of those messy and insane movies that I can't help but love, no matter how bad it gets. I really need to read the book to this one ASAP!
Liked:
It's a creature feature wrapped alongside a sci-fi B-movie about aliens, two of my greatest weaknesses!
The film actually starts off strong enough, giving me enough insight into the characters to like them and their personalities. We're also given some nice and touching flashbacks that further sets up where things might be going.
It's a excellently slick and atmospheric movie. The design and cinematography were on point!
Dug the soundtrack.
Didn't like:
Like mentioned, the film started off pretty strong. The first act establishes the characters relationships and personalities very well, and there were even a few surprises thrown in. Once the 2nd act kicks in though, it's a slow but steady roll downhill that ultimately crashes. Characters are killed off without ever having served any real purpose, the story starts rushing through details and events in a mad rush to finish, and seemingly important setups are dropped and forgotten. It pretty much loses everything that made it great at the beginning and sloshes to a generic and anticlimactic end.
Something tells me these are all book details that were not explored or edited out for whatever reason. All the more reason to read the book!
