Day 4 brings me to The Bad Batch, an incredibly gnarly, slow burning, dystopian neo-western. Think No Country for Old Men meets Escape from New York meets Mad Max, all with an art-house filter. Art-house canabilism is always a plus....
I don't have much to say about this one really. I enjoy slow burning films and shows (those tend to have incredible character writing), but this one just seemed to fizzle out the longer it went. The film is beautifully shot and has a great cast (always down for oddball Keanu Reeves), including a surprisingly poignant role for an unrecognizable Jim Carrey.
Despite that, The Bad Batch just seemed too long for what it ended up being, and a forced love story near the end just killed it for me. Not terrible, not great.
Quick Observations:
- Laughed when I saw a giant fence built around Texas. Little Trump shade?
- Spaghetti and noodles are readily available in this world's dystopia. Nice.
Day 4 out, 361 to go....
