The Meg (2018) - 365 Movie Challenge Day 225

Day 225 of the challenge! Take the best parts from Jurassic Park and Jaws, mix it with every killer shark movie cliché you can think of, and you get the awesomely dumb but fun The Meg

Liked:

  • The Meg never tries to be something that it isn't. In other words, it knows what kind of movie it is. Is it cheesy? Absolutely. Like nachos. But who doesn't love nachos? It's a snack (or meal) you eat to unwind and enjoy without any care in the world. Just turn your brain off and you'll have as good a time watching it as the cast and crew obviously had making it. If you try to take it seriously, well, good luck with that.

Didn't like:

  • The PG-13 rating was a mistake. This mega monster b-movie should have been much bloodier and gnarlier than it was. Guess I'll have to pick up the inevitable "unrated cut" later on this year if I want my fix.

  • I feel they didn't take advantage of the shark's size as much as they could. Many of the scares and action sequences (not all of them) were pretty much in line with those in other shark movies.
