Day 238 of the challenge! Watched The Happytime Murders against my better judgement. Better luck next time.
Liked:
On the surface, The Happytime Murders is a wonderful film. It's bright, colorful, and just plain out whimsical to watch. In other words, even raunchy "adult" muppets retain the magic of the more kid friendly ones.
Didn't like:
The Happytime Murders feels like 3 half-assed movies crammed into one. Rather than try and be a good crime thriller, comedy, or noir mystery (the vibe I got from the original concept art that initially got me excited for this movie), it tries to balance (and fails) all 3. Some shoehorned social commentary about puppets being second class citizens don't help matters much either. I could get past all this if the movie at least made me laugh, but I think the most it got out of me was a chuckle. Cussing and fornicating muppets can only get you so far. Who would have guessed a movie like this would end up being so forgettable?
