Slice (2018) - 365 Movie Challenge Day 296

Day 296 of the challenge! I wanted to love Slice, I really did. But sadly, it just doesn’t work.

Slice is a REALLY rare miss for A24. I remember getting incredibly hyped for Slice after that initial first trailer dropped. A24? Werewolf delivery man? Pizza place built over a portal to hell? Hell yea, sign me up for an extra large! It looked like an incredibly wacky, retro infused, self-aware trip of a horror comedy. But then it was released straight to streaming, and if I learned anything from the whole Cloverfield Paradox debacle, is that’s never a good sign.

Slice has plenty of charm going for it, but that alone can’t save it from what a jumbled mess it is. The quirky characters and story points are there, but none of it ever gels together to form one cohesive story. To keep with the pizza metaphor, Slice is like an extra large pie with all the fixings and toppings you could want, but the delivery guy dropped it a few times, so all you’re left with is a large cheesy glop in a cardboard box. You can still scrape it off the box and try your best to eat it that way, but it’s not the same.
