Day 294 of the challenge! I regret initially writing off Happy Death Day, because it’s a pretty damn funny watch!
A (more) demented Groundhog Day that plays around with slasher genre conventions and tropes, Happy Death Day had me smiling like an idiot all the way through. It’s silly, funny, gleefully self aware, and Jessica Rothe provides just enough emotional cheese to keep you invested to the end. She’s pretty great!
Happy Death Day isn’t a reinvention of any of the classics (horror and not) it’s paying homage to, but a remix of it’s parts. Kind of like how Taco Bell can continuously make and sell new menu items using the same 7 or 8 basic ingredients. And that’s totally okay! You catch on pretty quickly to things, but honestly you don’t think too much when you’re eating Taco Bell. You just spread more Fire Sauce over it and enjoy, and you should do the same for Happy Death Day.
Hyped for Part 2!
