Day 222 of the challenge! Firestarter smolders at best.
Liked:
Some of the effects work was clever. The finale was plenty of fun to watch because of this.
I liked George C. Scott playing a gnarly villain, (which he pulls off well enough considering what he's working with).
Didn't like:
Honestly, this is one of the most boring King adaptations (and horror movies) I've ever seen. Mundane might be a better word. There's zero sense of urgency, and you can't help but feel crushed by the dullness as everything (eventually) plays out. There's a slow burning joke somewhere here, but I'm not taking it.
The camera work and editing is just as dull as the script.
More often than not, all of the "father/daughter" scenes in Firestarter feel melodramatic, unable to escape the camp pulling it down.
