Day 220 of the challenge! Eighth Grade exceeded my exceptions! It's hilarious, heartbreaking, and so empathetic is hurts.

Liked:

  • Elsie Fisher is an acting treasure! NEED to keep on eye on her. She's incredible. Such a nuanced and funny performance.

  • We already know Bo Burnham is a great writer/comic with a great emotional understanding of what makes humans tick, but Eighth Grade shows just how much deeper that understanding goes. Looking forward to seeing where else he goes!

  • As mentioned, Eighth Grade is hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing at each awkward interaction or joke. The humor coming from a place of truth just adds to the joke's effectiveness.

  • Though very much a comedy, Eighth Grade knows when to get serious. You can't have an good coming of age story without some hard learned lessons about life or some loss of innocence, and Eighth Grade does this beautifully in a grounded and believable way.

  • This is the first movie to ever make me relate so much to the parent/adult figure. Am I getting old? Probably... Not to say that I didn't get pulled back to middle school every 2 minutes while watching either. Just means Eighth Grade has something for everybody.

  • Killer soundtrack yo!
