Brain Dead (1989) - 365 Movie Challenge Day 182

Day 182 of the challenge! Brain Dead is confusing. Is it a real movie? Am I real? Is this a good movie? Not really.

Liked:

  • Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton together was really gratifying to watch (even if they don't really get to do anything).
  • Loved that we're never given a solid answer to any of the chaos. It really feels like we're going crazy along with the protagonist, plus it keeps the film more interesting post watch. Like Inception, but less interesting.
  • Awesome (and cheesy) gore effects. Really owns it's camp.

Didn't like:

  • The dream/hallucination sequences became too repetitive. Brain Dead's low budget really showed here.
  • Poor poor poor cinematography. Brain Dead is an ugly movie to watch. No real creativeness behind the camera.
  •  While I enjoyed the vagueness of what was real and what wasn't, there's no focus or direction to any of it. The film just keeps going from one sequence to the next until it abruptly ends. There didn't seem to be a point to the film.
