Bernie (2012) - 365 Movie Challenge Day 45

Day 45 of the challenge! Taking a break from the horror with 2012's Bernie, starring Jack Black in one of his best (and most restrained) performances. Seriously, he's really REALLY good in this one. I went in expecting Bernie to be a traditional comedy and ended up being surprised by the nuanced (and still pretty funny) biopic about a lovable murder I got. For sure worth a watch!

Bernie is based off of the real life 1996 murder of Marjorie Nugent in Carthage, Texas. Bernie Tiede, a mortician, and one of the most likable and respected citizens of the town, shot Marjorie 4 times in the back before stashing her body away in a freezer for about 9 months. Perfect material for a dark comedy! What makes the movie interesting though is what happens after the actual murder. It's a fairly unique case that (as far as my understanding goes) the movie does a good job at capturing. I had a good time reading up on the actual case after finishing the movie.

Day 45 out, 323 to go....
