Day 287 of the challenge! Apostle is one of those horror flicks that stays with you long after you watch it.
Looking for jump scares? Look elsewhere because Apostle isn’t about that! Instead, Apostle wants to incrementally crush you with it’s overbearing religious dread and sense of hopelessness. Fun for the whole family!
Plot wise, Apostle a slow burn that takes it’s time building up the world and it’s players. I personally loved how the film wasn’t in a rush to get to the scares (not to say there aren’t a few moments early on), but it might be a bit too boring or art-house for some people.
As for the whole “stays with you long after you watch it” statement I started with, I’ll just say that I wasn’t too frightened while actually watching Apostle (more morbid curiosity and awe than fear), but I did have an insane night full of night terrors and an episode of sleep paralysis…so take that as you will.
